Pre-existences and conditions

• new building with right to design the interior of the apartments
• only volume and materials of the façade must be kept
• apartment with two floors of different size and shape, with terrace on the upper floor

Concept and solution

• part of the still not built slab is deleted to leave a double hight room
• the irregular volume is divided in two zones (public and private) by a 3D surface: the 'membrane'
• different openings on the membrane allow the physical and optical connections between the two zones
• at the public side, the membrane is coated with a ceramic mosaic used equally for walls and floor (terrace included)
• the public side is left as a fluid open double hight room (loft type) whereas the private zone is subdivided to accommodate all rooms
